Hair and Beauty

Express yourself . . .

At Bridge Academy, we endeavour to have a curriculum that is underpinned by our vision and core values thus offering a varied curriculum that is fit for all. The Hair and Beauty option is available to students in years 10 and 11. The department aims to provide a mix of learning styles providing both practical and theory sessions in hair styling, nail treatments and nail art and other therapies. The purpose of this qualification is to develop the transferable skills, attributes and behaviours needed for students to progress to further study and ultimately employment.

In Year 10 and 11 students can study a VTCT qualification that is designed around practical skills and tasks that place an emphasis on students demonstrating what they can do as well as what they know in theory. This course covers a range of content, including: customer service, nail services, hairdressing techniques, health and safety in hair and beauty and careers in the hair and beauty sector. Students have the opportunity to experience a real working salon and start to understand the business aspects relating to the sector.

We endeavour to embed career development into the curriculum beyond the classroom, promoting responsibility and independence. This qualification will maximise opportunities for learners to progress by focusing on the development of transferable and sector related skills. During enrichment, younger students will be able to show their creative sides whilst teaching them transferable skills such as communication and teamwork. Progression from this course leads to Hair & Beauty college courses or apprenticeships in this sector.
